It feels almost ironic to roast a straight-up double washed coffee from Ratnagiri Estate—a farm celebrated for wild experiments and pushing boundaries. But that’s exactly why this lot stands out. It’s proof that when Ashok Patre turns his focus to simpler aspects of coffee processing, the execution is still flawless. No noise, no gimmicks—just a coffee that’s bold, balanced, sweet, and built to be slurped. This lot isn’t here to impress once—it’s here to earn a permanent place in your daily brewing routine.

The cup opens with aromas of tea rose and citrus blossom that pull you in before uncoiling into flavor notes of licorice spice and roasted pecan on the finish. The acidity is balanced yet juicy, alive, and driving. A rich, weighty mouthfeel carries the structure, while a mild bitterness threads in for complexity. Roasted medium, it holds its ground as a punchy espresso, shines in delicious pourovers, and is a great coffee for everyday French Press brewers.

Ripe cherries were pulped to remove skin and pulp, leaving beans with mucilage intact. The first fermentation began, breaking down mucilage before the beans were thoroughly washed. A second controlled fermentation followed, ensuring every remaining layer was dissolved. After another wash, the parchment was left clean. Finally, the produce was dried slowly on raised beds under the mountain sun until moisture stabilized. The double washed method delivers a cup that is bold, clean, and juicy.

About the farm

Ratnagiri Estate is an environmentally abundant corner of the majestic South Indian Western Ghats near Bababudangiri, the place where coffee in India originated. Spread over 117 hectares, Ratnagiri has an impressive yield of quality specialty coffee successfully inter-cropped with fine pepper. Ratnagiri literally means Pearl Mountains, and the dense silver oaks that tower over remarkably flavourful shade grown coffee give a silvery hue to the hills illustrating the name. At Ratnagiri, generations of the Patre family have dedicated their lives since 1927, caring for a land that has rewarded their passion and perseverance. With Coffee, Pepper and Nature.

Ratnagiri Estate coffee is a popular purchase by fine flavour seeking palates across the world. The farm follows strict quality standards and has its own water supply from two freshwater streams following strict guidelines of government quality and pollution control boards. With a strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability, the coffee from the estate is a fine blend of art and heart!
