The experience begins with an alluring aroma of orange blossom, inviting a memorable tasting experience. On the palate, it reveals vibrant notes of grapefruit, leading to a unique finish reminiscent of cola candy. The tactile sensation is medium, achieving a harmonious balance with its sweetness. The coffee’s acidity is well-balanced, contributing to a refined and cohesive overall profile that delights the senses with each sip.
In the meticulous honey process used at Thogarihunkal Estate, only the sweetest cherries, boasting a brix level above 18, are selectively handpicked. Post-harvest, the cherries undergo sorting to remove any that are not fully ripe. The pulping process is performed without water, ensuring some of the mucilage remains on the inner parchment for enhanced flavor retention. The initial drying phase involves three days under open sunlight, after which the beans are transferred to raised beds in the shade to slow down the drying process and minimize direct sunlight exposure. Finally, the coffee is stored and allowed to rest for 30 days, ensuring optimal flavor development before being shipped to the mills.

Characteristics
Since 1857, the Thogarihunkal Estate Group has been a prominent figure in the coffee industry. Nestled on the slopes of the Outer Giris in Chikmagalur district, within the Western Ghats region of Karnataka, the group is recognized as a pioneer in coffee cultivation and supply for the discerning, quality-driven global market. Situated at an elevation of 3,500 to 4,500 feet above sea level, the estate offers the perfect climate for cultivating premium Arabica beans, further enhanced by an average annual rainfall of 75 inches over the past century.
The estate’s legacy began with T.B. Malle Gowda, a dynamic young planter who expanded coffee production with British collaboration. His son, T.B. Nagesh Gowda, continued this legacy, meticulously refining cultivation practices to elevate Thogarihunkal Estate to its esteemed status today.
